Albert Roberts patented an improved turnstile for the Piggly Wiggly Factory. The factory in Jackson, Tennessee opened a demonstration store that offered opportunities to try out new features for an evolving grocery business.

Piggly Wiggly franchisee, Julius Cytron, patented a gate that automatically raised an informational sign when customers entered the store.

during the 1930s

The first Piggly Wiggly stores did not include a butcher counter. During the 1930s Piggly Wiggly franchisees experimented with different ways to add butcher counters to Piggly Wiggly stores and they updated the 1920s oak store interiors with glass art deco style “vitrolite".
